Our 2-4 rooms allow the children to explore their independence by having more rooms to choose from, which toys to play with, when to play in the garden, how to get ready for the garden, starting potty training etc. Each room is set up with activities to meet all six areas of learning as outlined by the Early Years Foundation Stage.
The rooms are divided into different areas, so that your child can adapt to the different activities they would like to do each day. We have; a literacy area for them to look at books or make up stories, a puzzle area, a construction area, a great role-play area; – including a puppet theatre, an exploration area; - to look at objects from the natural world, a small world section, a numeracy room, and a creative room.
There are big open doors to the garden so that the children can play outside as much as they like, we strongly encourage the children to play out as much as possible. In May 2010 we had our garden landscaped and now have a magical space for the children to play. They have an area for stories, a climbing frame, a water feature, a playhouse, a sand pit, a water tray, speaker-phones, and a physical area. We also have a fantastic growing area where the children can get involved with growing their own fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers. This summer we have grown some delicious strawberries, carrtos, onions and parsnis.
We also have a room specifically for 3 year old children and over, with more age appropriate toys to challenge them further before going on to school. They have free access to a computer with educational games to play, board games, number and letter games, construction games with smaller parts and card games.
We encourage our children to have quiet time after lunch and for those who need to, can have a sleep. All children have their own diary so that you can read all about your child’s day, we document; sleep times, food consumption, nappy changes and any activities your child has enjoyed that day.
As your child reaches the end of nursery we fully support their transition on to school. We invite your child’s reception teacher to come and play with them at nursery and have a meeting with their key person sharing lots of information to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. When invited, we also take the children to visit their new school, to have a look around the premises, to see their new classroom, to meet others in their class and to ease any anxieties they might have before starting school. We also plan activities with the children to reflect the transition process i.e. school uniform role play and provide opportunities for children to express their concerns and fears. When your child starts school we hand over your child’s development folder to the school to provide information for the teachers about your child’s progress and development whilst at nursery.
